Influence of environmental patterns on gonadosomatic index and early life stages of Paracentrotus lividus in Corsica (Mediterranean Sea)

چکیده
Spatio-temporal patterns of the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and life cycle stages sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus were studied at two Corsican near sites which differ in terms protection status. The results highlighted an annual GSI with spring spawning (between May June) presumed lesser autumn (October or November). Spatial revealed homogeneity larval densities between whereas differences observed for settlers, recruits, sub-adults adult stages. Temporal variability was detected all highly variable stage settlement. This study suggests presence sporadic and/or arrival allochthonous larvae to sites. recruitment intensity years; 2016, peak recorded five-fold higher than 2015. confirmed importance habitat diversity on density small individuals. site’s status also influenced structuring P. indirectly as highest site where fishing allowed. Finally, this work difficulty observing temporal evolution natural environment.

Toxicity of tributyltin and triphenyltin to early life-stages of Paracentrotus lividus (Echinodermata: Echinoidea).
Sperm cell and embryo toxicity tests using the Mediterranean sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus were performed to assess the toxicity of tributyltin chloride, bis(tributyltin)oxide, triphenyltin acetate, and triphenyltin hydroxide. Toxicity values (mean effective concentration [EC50]) ranged from 2.97 to 18.5 microg/L for sperm cells and from 1.11 to 2.62 microg/L for embryos. For sperm cells, th...
متن کاملGrazing by the sea urchins Arbacia lixula L. and Paracentrotus lividus Lam. in the Northwest Mediterranean
The sea urchins Arbacia lixula and Paracentrotus lividus are common on shallow subtidal reefs in the Mediterranean. Previous studies on the ecology of these species reported that P. lividus is generally more abundant on horizontal or gently sloping substrata, where it forages mainly on erect algae. In contrast, A. lixula is more common on vertical substrata and it is considered a main grazer of...
متن کاملEarly development and molecular plasticity in the Mediterranean sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus exposed to CO2-driven acidification.
Ocean acidification is predicted to have significant effects on benthic calcifying invertebrates, in particular on their early developmental stages. Echinoderm larvae could be particularly vulnerable to decreased pH, with major consequences for adult populations. The objective of this study was to understand how ocean acidification would affect the initial life stages of the sea urchin Paracent...
